Nancy Bunt, MSS Meditation and Self-healing facilitator I treasure the time I got to spend with Phyllis Lei Furumoto. Reiki has been in my life since I was very young, and it is truly something I have a great passion for. What a gift I feel I was given to get to spend time in advanced study with Phyllis. Since her passing on March 31, 2019 I have reflected a lot on the path of Reiki, among a lot of other things I've gained from my time with her. One of the things she mentioned to me was the history of Reiki (Usui Shiki Ryoho) describes the path of the practice; and the portion of each lineage bearer's life in the story pertains directly to this path. Whether you received your Reiki training in the traditional practice of Usui Shiki Ryoho or in a different system of practice, we are all part of the evolving path of Reiki. The energy we are all connecting with is the same, and we are all interconnected to each other through this energy. Reiki is Universal Life Force Energy. No one owns Reiki. Everyone is already connected to this universal life force. It's what makes everything alive.
As long as our practice is approached with pure intentions for the highest good of all, and clearly communicated, no one practice style is better than another. They're just different. Everyone is on their own life journey, so what resonates with one person might not with another. That's one reason we should hold so much gratitude for how Reiki has evolved and grown. As a result of this diversity, Reiki perseveres and energy-work itself is being introduced to people all over the world. Whatever practice style you are called to is how you were meant (at least initially) to bring Reiki into your life. You are called to Reiki at the right time, with the right teacher, and for the right reasons. It is through training in Reiki that you are opened or reawakened to this life force connection and become an active channel for energy to move from the Universe, through you, and into another person, animal, plant, or yourself. As you grow and evolve so will your practice. One of the most important ways to continue to grow, heal and evolve with Reiki is through our personal self-practice. This is how we maintain our union with Reiki and support ourselves. Our self-practice is also where we gain insight into the true depth of Reiki and the profound impact that it truly can have. Supporting others through the use of Reiki comes only when we support ourselves with it. We raise our own vibration and bring a stronger therapeutic presence into everything we do, and there's a ripple effect to this. My students often hear me say "Never underestimate the power of who you are and how you are. The littlest things you say and do can change the course of a person's life in an instant." The fact that you have this practice for you, changes you, raises your vibration, and contributes to raising the vibration of the collective. However you choose to use Reiki in your life, remember we're all part of this ever evolving path of Reiki, which is a wonderful and beautiful thing.
